Second Annual Picture Day

Venue: Arch Street Meeting House

Join us for our Second Annual Picture Day, as we continue a new tradition of documenting our meeting community each year. Right after Meeting for Worship, a photographer will be onsite in the West Room to capture a group photo of our members and attenders together as a record of who makes up our community this year and how it grows and changes over time. The photo will be shared with the community afterward for everyone to keep, and we'll also take individual committee photos following the group picture.

We want to capture as many Friends as possible, so please plan to stay after worship and join us!

Extended Meeting for Worship

Venue: Arch Street Meeting House

We will gather in silence in this longer-form opportunity for worship, with hearts and minds open and bent towards listening to that of God among and within us. Spoken ministry may arise from the silence, though it is not uncommon for worship to remain silent for the duration of our time together. Messages should be a deepening of the silence we share. To this end, we hold the silence as ministry itself, which has the capacity for transformation and transcendence.

Friends should plan to stay for the full time. Three hours of worship opening ourselves up to what may arrive asks something different of us than an hour.

Extended Meeting for Worship is open to all those who want to deepen their worship practice in a longer format.

Third Sunday Potluck Lunch

Venue: Arch Street Meeting House

Each month, Friends gather for a shared potluck lunch following worship on the Third Sunday. A rotating schedule among the meeting's committees ensures there's a foundation for the meal. If you're joining us for Meeting for Worship that morning, we'd love for you to stay for lunch. If you're led to bring a dish to share, we welcome that, but we most of all would like to welcome you for a meal and shared company.

All are welcome: members, attenders, and newcomers alike.

Venue: Arch Street Meeting House, 320 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106

Meeting for Business is held monthly to discern the needs of our community. Unlike committee meetings, which focus on specific areas of the meeting's work, Meeting for Business addresses a wide range of topics and welcomes the voices of both members and attenders in the dialogue.

Friends should contact the Clerk of the Meeting with any agenda items by the Wednesday prior to Meeting for Business. The agenda and any materials requiring advance review will be distributed through that week's edition of the newsletter.

Meeting for Business is preceded by a potluck lunch following the rise of Meeting for Worship at 11:45am. All newcomers and attenders are welcome to join for the meal and to participate in Meeting for Business.

Fall Walking Series

Venue: Arch Street Meeting House

Cooler weather has arrived just in time for our fall walking series, which resumes on September 27. Gather at the meeting house at 9:30, pair up with someone you don't know well, and take a 45-minute walk through Old City. Each group chooses their own route and returns in time for Meeting for Worship.

This is an easy, low-pressure way to have a longer one-on-one conversation with a Friend and get to know others in our community. Complimentary coffee and disposable cups will be provided by the Outreach Committee.

RSVPs are encouraged but not required (however, RSVPs allow us to plan for enough coffee or to alert interested folks if the weather looks bad). We look forward to walking with you! RSVP here >>

Learning 'Quaker Speak'

Venue: Arch Street Meeting House

Hosted by the Adult Religious Education Committee, this discussion invites us to explore the language of our faith community, focusing on "leading," "eldering," "clearness committees," and "coming to unity." Whether you're new to Quaker vocabulary or you've used these phrases for years, this is a chance to talk together about their spiritual and historical origins, what they actually mean in practice, and how they shape the way we discern, worship, and make decisions as a community.

Come with a question you've never quite had the chance to ask, or a term that's never fully made sense, and leave having heard how other Friends in our community understand it too. No prior knowledge of Quaker terminology needed.

Meeting for Business is preceded by a potluck lunch following the rise of Meeting for Worship at 11:45am. All newcomers and attenders are welcome to join for the meal and to participate in Meeting for Business.

The Impact of William Penn and His Holy Experiment: Then and Now

Venue: Arch Street Meeting House

After more than 250 years, what are William Penn’s enduring contributions? How did Penn’s Quaker values inform his understanding? Where did the Holy Experiment succeed and where did it fall short?  What would Penn make of Philadelphia, his “Greene Country Towne,” today?

Hear from a panel of Quakers reflecting on different lenses of this legacy, followed by audience Q&A.

RSVP encouraged, free to attend. RSVP Here >>

All are welcome: Quakers, members of the interfaith community, and the general public alike. Friends and guests are also invited to join the Monthly Meeting of Friends of Philadelphia for Meeting for Worship at 10:30 am and lunch at 12 pm prior to the program as a chance to experience Quaker worship firsthand before the panel's discussion of Quaker values and Penn's legacy.

Arch Street Meeting House is an active worship space and museum dedicated to Quaker history. It stands on property William Penn deeded to Philadelphia Quakers, making it a fitting home for this conversation about his legacy.

This program is organized through Interfaith Philadelphia’s 2026 series, ‘Religious Freedom: Then & Now.’

We welcome newcomers and visitors to join us for Midweek Meeting for Worship, held over Zoom. A host will welcome Friends as they arrive, hold Meeting for Worship, and bring it to its close. The Zoom room opens at 5:25 pm, worship begins at 5:30 pm and lasts around 45 minutes, followed by Joys and Sorrows and Announcements, ending at 6:30 pm.

As in all our meetings for worship, messages should come from the heart and fit the prayerfulness of the gathering. Only one message is shared at a time, and Friends listen in silence and do not respond verbally. If you have a message that doesn't feel inspired to share vocally, you're invited to share it at the rise of Meeting for Worship instead.

Please note that the "Join Online Meeting" link only becomes active the day of Meeting for Worship.

Meeting for Worship | In Person

Venue: Arch Street Meeting House, 320 Arch Street, Philadelphia PA 19106

We gather in-person for unprogrammed meeting for worship at 10:30 am on Sunday mornings, intending to open ourselves wholly to the Divine Spirit, which we believe is within and beyond each person. We welcome all newcomers and visitors to join us, and a greeter will be on hand to welcome you as you arrive and help you get oriented. Visit our Invitation to Worship page for an introduction on how we gather in worshipful silence and what to expect when you join us.

Our meeting provides free childcare, and following the rise of meeting, we provide refreshments to enjoy each other's fellowship after worship.
